Five objections
case managers raise
before they submit.
For BHS caseworkers, probation officers, shelter staff, and managed-care plan coordinators placing a resident into a Sober Stay residence. Concise answers to the five questions that come up most — funding, MAT, timelines, house rules, and post-placement status — tied back to the programs on /programs and the public /faq.
What case managers ask first
Five straight answers,
one page.
Everything a BHS liaison, probation officer, or managed-care plan coordinator wants to know before opening /refer. Each answer points back to a working program on /programs or a public FAQ on /faq.
Objection 01
"Does Sober Stay actually bill the resident’s Medi-Cal — or is there a $3,000/month buy-in?"
Sober Stay bills each resident’s coverage through the actual Medi-Cal programs California clients are already enrolled in. There is no private-pay scholarship stacked on top of sticker rent. LA County residents step down from county-funded detox or outpatient through the Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System (DMC-ODS); Medi-Cal–eligible residents leaving treatment, incarceration, or emergency shelter enroll in LA County Recovery Bridge Housing (RBH) the same week as move-in. Re-enrollment runs at every 60-day redetermination and is handled in-house.
Funding shifts as new benefits land. DHCS Transitional Rent — effective 1/1/2026 — covers residents exiting homelessness, institutional care, or a behavioral-health crisis, and Sober Stay is lining up properties on day one. If the resident is unsure where their coverage sits or whether it’s still active, that’s fine: the intake team verifies on the call and will run redetermination if needed.
Objection 02
"Will Sober Stay place a resident on methadone, buprenorphine / Suboxone, or vivitrol?"
Yes. Sober Stay flags MAT-compatible houses from the very first pre-screen and routes the resident there on the first call — no forced taper, no Suboxone curfew, no medication count at the door. The pre-screen asks whether the resident is on MAT specifically so the right house matches the first time.
The full set of MAT — methadone, buprenorphine (Suboxone), and vivitrol — keeps running at the house. Clinical plans stay with the referring treatment team; Sober Stay funds the bridge-housing side. The pre-screen surface this is built in to is the same partner form on /refer.
Objection 03
"How fast does a placement actually happen — from submission to move-in?"
A partner referral lands in a separate inbox from public /intake leads, so the founder reads it on a 24-hour clock and replies within one business day. From the first call, the intake counselor follows a 4-hour callback window — the notification fires with the resident’s phone, region, and step-down origin, and the counselor calls the number you provided.
Coverage verification starts the moment the pre-screen lands (Medi-Cal / RBH enrollment, depending on the case) and routes the resident to the house matching their step-down origin, gender policy, and MAT stance. Most placements complete within ten days. Status flows back to the referring case manager at every transition — not just on move-in — with two milestones: "coverage confirmed" and "bed matched."
Objection 04
"What are Sober Stay’s house rules — curfews, substances, bag checks?"
On move-in day the resident brings a photo ID, the active Medi-Cal or managed-care plan card (or the MCP ID verified on the call), and any current MAT prescription. Sober Stay does not require pay stubs, sober-living history letters, or up-front deposits. Move-in does require one of every MAT-flagged house to keep the protocol intact — so MAT residents are routed to MAT-compatible residences from the first call.
What stays out: substances of misuse, weapons, and open containers. Routine bag checks at the door are standard. Pre-set curfews and a structured weekly schedule are part of the residence model, and the referring case manager is looped in on whichever milestones they request. Pre-screen details on documentation and what to leave behind are on the public /faq under Q5 and Q6.
Objection 05
"How do I check on a resident after placement?"
Partner referrals track through /refer/status. Save the private status code shown after submission and use it to see the latest milestone without entering an email address or resident details.
Beyond self-serve status, two phone-based callbacks fire automatically at every transition: a 4-hour intake counselor call once a pre-screen lands, the founder’s 24-hour reply on a partner referral, and milestone updates at "coverage confirmed" and "bed matched." If anything stalls, the founder inbox is open 24/7 and the reply envelope is the same address used across the rest of the partner area.
After the form
Status updates land at /refer/status
Every partner referral generates a private status code at submission. Save it and bring it to /refer/status to pull the latest milestone — coverage confirmed, bed matched, move-in confirmed. The lookup returns status and timestamps only.
