Recovery housing
for the card
private-pay turns away.

Sober living across Southern and Northern California that accepts Medi-Cal — from Sylmar and Skid Row up the coast to Sacramento and Oakland. Built on Drug Medi-Cal (DMC-ODS), Recovery Bridge Housing, and the new DHCS Transitional Rent benefit. No $3,000/ month buy-in. No sobriety test before the application. LA County is where families and referral partners struggle most to find beds — we open doors there first while expanding capacity across the state.

What is and isn’t a Sober Stay house

Two jobs most sober livings skip.
We do both.

Residents come to Sober Stay after county-funded detox, after incarceration, out of Skid Row shelters, or on a MAT regimen. The private-pay operator told them their insurance card is “the wrong kind.” Almost every one of them has been turned away at least once before.

Inside the house

The accountability structure.

The thing every sober living is supposed to do — and the thing most post-recovery housing quietly drops.

  • Random urine drug screening, on a real schedule
  • Peer-led house meetings twice a week
  • MAT-compatible house rules — no forced taper, no Suboxone curfew
  • Employment and benefits linkage within 14 days of move-in

Around the house

The housing-navigation work.

The part most operators skip because it doesn’t bill. It also doesn’t bill Medi-Cal — until now.

  • Medi-Cal redetermination support before coverage lapses
  • Recovery Bridge Housing enrollment with LA County
  • Warm hand-offs from BHS, probation, and managed-care plans
  • Care coordination with Health Net and partner MCPs

How a placement works

From a phone call to keys in hand — usually under ten days.

Most operators won’t tell you how they screen residents. We will. Click any step.

Send the resident’s county, current MCP, MAT status (if any), and a legal contact. We do not require a pay stub, an sober-living history, or an upfront deposit.

The funding stack

Three Medi-Cal programs. One intake. Zero $3,000/month buy-in.

Sober Stay bills each resident’s coverage through the actual Medi-Cal programs California clients are already enrolled in — not a private-pay scholarship stacked on top of sticker rent.

Program 01

Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System (DMC-ODS)

LA County’s specialty substance-use treatment system. Sober Stay is a licensed recovery housing provider in the DMC-ODS continuum. Covers residents stepping down from county-funded detox and outpatient.

Program 02

LA County Recovery Bridge Housing (RBH)

The short-term bridge housing program for Medi-Cal–eligible residents leaving treatment, incarceration, or emergency shelter. We enroll clients at move-in and re-enroll at every redetermination.

Program 03 · Effective 1 / 1 / 2026

DHCS Transitional Rent

California’s new statewide transitional rent benefit for people coming out of homelessness, institutional care, or a behavioral-health crisis. Sober Stay is lining up properties on day one — Northern California and statewide Transitional Rent coverage opening alongside.
